Visiting Geospatial Lab 2025
20 November 2025
On 20 November 2025, students from the Department of Computer Science, led by Dr. Tan LI and Dr. Chen ZHANG, visited the Geospatial Lab (GeoLab). Established by the Development Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the GeoLab focuses on improving the quality of life and fostering business opportunities. It provides a platform that nurtures a geospatial community by encouraging the young generation, startups, and creative minds to share ideas and collaborate in spatial data.
During the visit, professional instructors provided foundational knowledge about spatial data and Geographic Information System (GIS) concepts. In hands-on sessions, students worked with GIS software and open geospatial data from the CSDI portal to complete practical analytical tasks.
They also explored interactive demonstrations, including a racing simulation game using authentic Hong Kong maps, which deepened their understanding of local geospatial data resources and data visualization techniques.
Overall, the visit highlighted the value and application of spatial data, inspiring students to consider future endeavors in the field of geospatial technology.
