Seminar: Introduction to IP Rights
29 September 2025
The Department of Computer Science held a seminar on Introduction to Intellectual Property (IP) Rights on 29 September 2025. The seminar featured special guests Ms Rosita Li, a partner at ELLALAN (formerly an IP partner at Mayer Brown and Johnson Stokes & Master (JSM), and Mr Hank Yeung, an associate at ELLALAN. They shared IP-related legal provisions with students and explained how current laws protect IP, as well as the protection mechanisms for different types of IP. The seminar attracted a number of students and fostered understanding and discussion about IP.
By using real-life case studies, the seminar explored the fundamentals of intellectual property, including an overview of IP Right (such as patents, trademarks, copyrights and design rights), key enforcement considerations, AI governance and policy, and commercialization strategies. Students also learned how to effectively commercialize their creations.
